Beginnings
Canadian Tamil FM churches began ministry involvement in Sri Lanka in 2003, as a direct response to our Gateway Cities Initiative. In 2004 a Mission District was inaugurated under the oversight of The Free Methodist Church in Canada. Today, a fellowship of more than 30 congregations is overseen by local leadership with encouragement from a group of partnered Canadian churches. Ministry leaders in this challenging country value ongoing Canadian participation in the development of new pastors and church plants. International Child Care Ministry (ICCM Canada) began a child sponsorship program in 2011, specifically helping children of pastoral families.
Present Ministries
Committed and caring pastoral families are attending to the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of this deeply wounded country. FM churches are planted amongst the most challenged socio-economic groups, attending to persons of all ethnic backgrounds. Pastoral training, development and encouragement are the most significant needs that Canadian FM churches are invested in. On a regular basis, teams from Canadian churches are invited to conduct children’s ministry teacher training programs.
