How Creative is your Generosity

During this era of economic uncertainty, as believers, we can choose to respond in a number of ways. We can either react like the rest of the world – fear, anxiety, anger, withdrawal or perhaps ignore what is happening and go on with life as usual.

Instead I want to challenge you to take some time to consider other options. First, what does God want to teach me during this time? Is it about trust, stewardship, generosity, selfishness, moderation…?

Secondly, how does God want me to respond?

Each year Les and I develop a gift plan for the upcoming year, asking God to challenge us to give beyond what we did the year before and beyond what we think is possible. This year, as we were considering what we would give, God challenged us in a new way.

In the past our gift plan pretty much revolved around giving of time and money. This year God said “I want you to consider everything I’ve given to you – be creative.” One of the resources that God has given to us is land. So we’ve put out the call to several churches and ministries to begin a conversation about the possibility of a community garden. We’ve got the land, the water, the equipment but we lack the manpower to make it happen. And besides, there is something really wonderful about participating the the planting, nurturing and harvesting of your own food.

We don’t know if this is going to fly yet or not. But it is an idea, a creative way to use other resources that God has entrusted to us. What do you have that God could use?
