Greetings from the ‘Land of Living Skies’
I have loved being in Saskatchewan! It’s been too long! Over the past 6 days: I visited with most of our pastors; I presided over the Rev. Jessica Isaak’s ordination (a gifted leader); spoke and had lunch with Lakeview people; was greatly entertained by fun-loving pastor’s kids; was very encouraged by all the good reports despite a bad covid season. Thank you Saskatchewan!
When I became Bishop I quickly discovered a need to have better connection and support for the great cloud of FM ministers who have come before us. Retired ministers and spouses. BOA agreed and we created a team to honour, help support, and to connect FMCIC with retired ministers. Here is an interview with the team leader:
Retired Ministers’ Team interview
Bishop Cliff: Linda you have agreed to lead this new team for retired ministers. Tell us what the mandate of the new team is.
Linda: First let me say thanks to you, Bishop Cliff and the BoA for envisioning a Retired Ministers’ (RM) Team. The RM Team has been tasked by the BoA to provide support and care; and to liaise with and mobilize our retired ministers. That’s a broad brush and the entire Team appreciates FMCiC leadership for thinking in these terms. That breadth of scope gives the RM Team space to listen to what our retirees and their spouses are saying to us regarding their interests and their priorities.
Bishop Cliff: Where has your team begun? What are the first few steps that your team is taking?
After people have had the opportunity to respond, the RM Team will study the survey results. Our intention is then to have interested participants engage in a focus group for deeper engagement on the survey points identified as being important to retirees. This input will then be reflected as priorities in the RM mandate and will be the content of a Three Year Strategic Plan. The Retired Ministers Team is also planning face-to-face conversations with retirees in the summer of 2022 if circumstances permit.
All that to say, there’s a good deal of work to do and this Team is certainly up to it! Comprised of Lorraine Buffam, Vic Stonehouse, Debbie Hogeboom and Colleen Zavrel (with Grant Sigsworth as Recording secretary, Ex Officio) each member is eminently capable, extremely experienced and wholeheartedly committed to serving FMCiC retirees. I’ve said it before: The Retired Ministers’ Team is the “Gold Standard of Teams” and we’re expecting to achieve great things over the next three years.
