CliffsNotes – January 30, 2018

This past weekend the National Ministerial of Education, Guidance and Placement Committee (MEGaP) met at Mount Carmel. These pastors and lay persons from across Canada invested a weekend to pray, discuss, and develop policy about LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT in the FMCIC. MEGaP does not take its job lightly – this was clear as we moved through a very full agenda.

We asked very good questions about our current process and future steps:

  • What does leadership development look like for the FMCIC?
  • What does a process look like for bi-vocational pastors, transfers, new leaders, etc?
  • How do we help local churches identify and develop leaders?
  • What about non-compliant pastors (those who do not complete their required Continuing Education Units, or fill in annual reports, or do not participate in Networks, or lead their churches to full engagement in CORE, etc)? Should there be more “teeth” or penalties?

We agreed that we would pursue the development of a FMCIC culture that is positive, vision-ful, inviting and healthy where leaders and churches are excited to be full participants [compliant] in the FMCIC family / movement; rather than focus on a system of penalties for pastors who step out of line.

Your MEGaP committee is a very good team. They are you and I heard no power-talk or gate-keeping talk or even negative talk about our leaders. I heard a heart to develop leaders for the Kingdom!

One very important discussion was about the role and relationship of the new Regional Coaches to MEGaP. Let me remind you again of this important new development…

Our hunch is that if we can come alongside our pastors supporting them, equipping them and inspiring them, then our churches will be healthier (well, those church families who want to do Kingdom work). So our pastors now have: accountability partners, [tools to develop] healthy boards, a NETWORK (that is now focused on being a “safe, intimate space for pastors to connect with each other and the movement”), funding for counseling, a Regional Coach to help with church health, National Leadership Team, Minister’s Conference to inspire, professional development requirements (CEU’s) and a National Prayer Team stepping up to surround our leaders and churches. Church plants can also add a Church planting coach to the list!

Each Regional Coach is on contract to work one day per week. We will monitor this closely (is this enough time?). Having six part time Regional Coaches nationally increases our capacity to be available faster and offer more contact! BTW in case you have not read elsewhere our new Regional Coaches are: Vern Frudd, Seth Freeman, Roxanne Goodyear, Mary Lee Dewitt, Steve Cylka and Philippe Reichenbach.

These coaches will be making contact with our pastors very soon. They have church health tools in their tool belt, will be trained in conflict mediation, and will be rolling out a plan for a church to experience a focused health weekend… but I’ll leave this for the Director of Leadership Development to tell you more about…
