Yesterday morning Donna and I worshipped at the Malvern Chinese Free Methodist Church, pastored by Dr. K.K. Leung. The church meets in two storefront units at the base of a high rise tower on Sheppard Avenue in northeast Toronto. When we arrived this vibrant growing church was meeting in Sunday school classes – one being taught in Mandarin and the rest in Cantonese. In one class 19 new converts who have come to the Lord as a result of Alpha Ministry were being prepared for baptism.
This is a congregation that is made up of a whole mix of people – a good number of business and professionals (my interpreter was a doctor) and senior citizens who are new immigrants to Canada. There is also a growing number of teenagers. We enjoyed our conversation with Lily, a mother of several teens, who is sensing a call to ministry and has begun studies at Tyndale. Their Assistant Pastor, Felix Chow, has an ongoing outreach to University of Toronto students. As this congregation outgrows their facilities, they are praying that God will give them wisdom for their next steps.
In the afternoon, we joined the 100th Anniversary celebrations at Holt FMC. The church was filled to capacity as this rural congregation north of Toronto paused to give thanks for God’s faithfulness over the last century. Installing an elevator has been an anniversary project and at the end of the service, a ribbon was cut to officially mark that the elevator was open for business.
In my remarks to the congregation, I challenged them to let the elevator be a symbol reminding them that God’s people are always to be looking for ways to remove barriers that keep people from coming into His presence and being in fellowship with His people.
There are pics from both of these events in the photo gallery this week.
We offer our congratulations to two new Ministerial Candidates just approved by the Board of Administration: Iris Cardy (Whitby FMC) and Ryan Young (Sarnia-New Horizons FMC).
There is one appointment to announce: Ryan Young has been appointed as Associate Pastor at New Horizons FMC in Sarnia, Ontario.
Please remember to pray for the Ministers Conference this week at Wesley Acres.
Have a great week serving Jesus.
