Bishop’s Notes – November 9, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

Today I’m going hiking!  It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to hit the trail to clear my mind and exercise my body and it’s time for some appropriate self-care!

This past week was especially busy as the Ministry Centre hosted a day long meeting of the Systems Analysis Team (assisted by “Critical Friends” Dr. Howard Snyder and Keith Schnell), the Intercultural Task Team, Personnel Committee and then the Board of Administration on Friday and Saturday.

I came away from this set of meetings grateful to the Lord for the dedicated leaders who are committed to seeking God’s agenda for the church and its ministries in Canada.  When you have devoted Jesus followers who are keen to find ways to see the health of congregations and leaders being deepened, who are wondering out loud if there is a place for full-time missionaries to plant churches in Canada and who are passionate about finding a way to engage every existing congregation in helping to plant a church – even if the most they can offer is fervent prayer and authentic encouragement, you can’t help but be grateful.

The Systems Analysis work continues to lead us into deeper and better questions about what the Spirit of God is doing to enable the people of God to participate in what He is doing in the world.  Please continue to pray for this important work.

Yesterday Donna and I visited Firm Faith Community Church in south Malvern on the east side of Toronto.  It was a joy to be with this congregation that is determined to establish a healthy presence in that community.  There are a few pics from this visit in the Photo Gallery this week.

There are two announcements to make:  Rev. Ken Dryden has been appointed at Lakeside Community Church in Salmon Arm, BC and Queensway FMC, Niagara Falls, has gone into transition.

Have a great week serving Jesus and remember that if you are going to be healthy for the long run, appropriate self-care is a stewardship issue that you need to pay attention to.

Bishop Keith

P.S.  Remember.  If you are wondering about something related to the FMCIC and its ministry, please send your question to ministrycentre [at] fmc-canada [dot] org.
