Bishop’s Notes – November 23, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

I can hardly believe that next Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent – that beautiful season of the year when we prepare ourselves for this year’s celebration of Jesus’ first coming into our world.  I hope that this will be a spiritually rich time for you and your congregation.

This past Friday and Saturday the Study Commission on Doctrine met at the Ministry Centre.  I’ll write more next week about the interesting and important projects that it is working on.

This past week Kim Henderson (FMCiC’s Director of Personnel) and Lloyd Eyre (President of the Lorne Park Foundation) hosted an information and fellowship time for students at Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto.  Kim tells me that there was a good turn out of students and this was a worthwhile investment in potential leaders for the future.  There are pics in the photo gallery of this event.

Yesterday Donna and I drove to the village of Dresden, Ontario to be part of Trinity Christian Centre’s 20th Anniversary celebrations.  It was a blessing to be welcomed by Pastor John Lang, to preach in their morning service and be part of this day as they celebrated 20 years of ministry and dedicated a wall mural in their drop-in centre and sound system upgrades to honour the memory of Lillian Clark and Keith Wells.  We sat at tables for the worship service (a full house) and then after the service enjoyed a concert of Southern Gospel music followed by a roast beef lunch.  [This congregation is Pastor Tim Richard’s (Melfort FMC, SK) home church.]

In the afternoon, Rick Venne was set apart as a Commissioned Minister at the New Horizons Church in Sarnia.  He is the pastor of Iglesia de Buen Samaritano, a ministry to Spanish-speaking people in the Sarnia area.  We want to offer our congratulations to Rick and Bridget.  It was a wonderful time of celebration which was of course followed by another opportunity to share food and fellowship with God’s people.

There are also pics of these events in the photo gallery.
Have a great week serving Jesus.

Bishop Keith
