Bishop’s Notes – January 26, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

We have some wonderful, committed leaders in the FMCiC.  I know that you already know that, but this past weekend, I was with two different groups in meetings  and the level of effort and Christ-like collegiality that I experienced made me want praise God in writing in front of all of you for these folks.

On Friday afternoon and evening I sat in on the Management Committee meeting as they heard from the FMCiC’s actuary on where things are at with the Ministers Pension Plan and then from the Investments Advisor on what can be expected for 2009.  After these presentations, there were earnest discussions.  The good news is that the support of CORE and the Giving Streams from the churches in 2008 has been very strong.  Mark will be sending more detail later in the week on this and you will see what I mean!!

On Saturday, Camp Board representatives and Executive Directors from Arlington Beach, Echo Lake, Maple Grove, Pine Orchard, and Wesley Acres came together for the 2009 Camping Summit.  It was a pleasure to sit in on the day-long dialogue as these leaders talked about their ministries, built relationships with each other and then as a group tackled these questions:

• What is the mission of the camp now?

• What do the camp and denomination contribute to each other?

• What does the camp contribute to beyond the denomination?

Three Board of Administration Executive Committee members were also present as a dialogue has also begun on how to adjust the requirements of the relationship between the Camps and the FMCiC to include folks from other denominations who are eager to participate in the ministries of these camps.  See some pics from the Camping Summit in the Photo Gallery this week.

Thanks for getting started on preparing your Annual Report.  Please keep the email that Marcia Goldstein sent last week so that you have the instructions and the deadline handy.

There are no new announcements this week.  The Prayer Guide will be sent later this week.

Have a great week serving Jesus.

Bishop Keith
