On Friday, the Ministry Centre staff took time away from their responsibilities to celebrate the Christmas season with lunch at Moxies and a Christmas party to follow at the Ministry Centre. We were also going to use this time to say thank you to Joanne Bell for her service as Stewardship Development Director with the FMCIC, but unfortunately, Joanne was ill and not able to join the celebration. So, though, I do not have pictures of a gift presentation to Joanne, I do want to take this moment to acknowledge the important work that she has done during her time with the FMCIC. Thanks, Joanne, from all of us.
The Network Leader Mentors also met last week for their semi-annual review of how things are going with the pastoral networks generally and to lay plans for the Network Leader training sessions in January. As an NLT, we really appreciate these leaders who share with us in the responsibility of doing our best to provide networks where each pastor can receive encouragement and skill training for their ministries.
I mentioned in passing a few weeks ago that the Study Commission on Doctrine (SCOD) had also met recently. They continue to work on position papers and Manual statements that are designed to help us as a movement chart our course as we seek to be salt and light in Canadian society. SCOD projects that are on the go presently include topics like: Prevenient Grace and Missiology; the Methodist Synthesis, pornography, healing marriages, a theology of the stewardship of possessions, sanctity of life (reproductive technology, abortion, euthanasia); healthy sexual intimacy, etc. As projects are completed some of them will be posted on the FMCIC website in the Position Papers section for you to read. We have recently posted two papers by Dr. Howard Snyder (“The Free Methodist Synthesis” and “Seven Steps toward Free Methodist Renewal”) under “Methodism” – http://www.fmc-canada.org/index.php/en/Position-Papers/position-papers.html
There are pics from each of the above events in the Photo Gallery this week. Please note (below) that Verona FMC has posted a part-time youth pastor position.
I trust this will be a spiritually rich week as you continue in this year’s Advent journey toward Christmas day.
Have a great week serving Jesus.
P.S. Remember. If you are wondering about something related to the FMCIC and its ministry, please send your question to [email protected].
