Bishop’s Notes – August 4, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

Earlier this summer, I mentioned that Floyd Babcock, a minister in the FMCIC, had been appointed as a Canadian Citizenship Judge.  This morning, along with a number of other friends and colleagues, Donna and I had the opportunity to be present for his official “Robing” as a judge and to observe while he led new Canadians from 24 different countries in their oaths of citizenship.

It was a very moving experience to watch these new citizens receive their citizenship papers and observe the variety of expressions on their faces.  Some were elated, others had tears in their eyes, and others seemed to be giving a serious sigh of relief now that they were officially citizens.

Floyd told me that he feels very honoured to serve his country in this way and to be able to participate in the lives of so many people.  As one might imagine, the courtroom procedures are only a very small part of his responsibility. He will be involved in examining the files of applicants for citizenship and in due diligence interviews.  As he comes to your mind, I’m sure he would appreciate your prayers.  Unfortunately, my camera is at the repair shop but I hope to have some pictures of this event in the Photo Gallery later this week.

There are several announcements to make this week.  The Timmins church has gone into transition, David Moore has been appointment as the Network Leader (for the network formerly led by Kevin Tompkins), and Réal Gagné’s appointment status has been changed to “Released for service beyond the denomination– Divisional Human Resources Coordinator, Salvation Army.”

Next week, the Systems Analysis Task Force of the Board of Administration will be holding its meetings at the Ministry Centre.  Please pray for us as we together seek the Lord’s discernment about where we have been as movement, where we are presently, and the direction that He is leading us as we press into the future.

I look forward to meeting at the throne of grace with many of you in our days of fasting and prayer this week. (See attached Prayer Guide for August 6-7, 2009)

Blessings,

Bishop Keith
