Bishop’s Notes – August 17, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

I am so thankful for the group of leaders with whom I worked last week in the Systems Analysis conversation.  There were three full days of discussions, answering questions, and earnest prayer.  It is a mammoth assignment for a group to analyze the various dimensions of the systems that are at work, not only on the national scene but also in local churches.  Keith Schnell of Calgary joined us to serve as a “Critical Friend.”  In November, Dr. Howard Snyder has agreed to serve in a similar way.

Randy Miller, Chair of the Board of Administration will be sending out a progress statement in the near future.  My prayer and deep desire is that the Lord will help us as a movement to keep developing deeper maturity that will result in fruitfulness that will remain.  Thanks for your prayers.

This morning I received this statement from Bishop Samuel Kayinamura: “After revisiting all the testimonies, the Gacaca Courts sentenced Bishop Philemon to life imprisonment. Bishop Philemon is set to appeal within 15 days. We will again request your prayers for him, his family and the church.” Thank you for your prayers for the church in Rwanda.  Naturally, we are deeply saddened and disappointed and we must continue to trust God in these matters.

We offer our congratulations to Elizabeth Down.  The BOA has approved her as a Ministerial Candidate and MEGaP has appointed her as Associate Pastor at Sault Ste Marie.  Kim Henderson was in the Soo on Sunday and had the opportunity to present Liz with her certificate.

On Sunday morning, Donna and I were in Repentigny, QC for the dedication of the facilities of l’Eglise Méthodiste Libre la Foi des Elus.  It was a very joyous occasion and we thank God for this church that is being planted in this suburban community north east of Montreal.  The Weyburn (SK) FMC has helped this churchplant to purchase their store front meeting place – a wonderful testimony to interprovincial partnership.

Late in the afternoon, Normand Doucette was set apart as a Commissioned Minister at Mountain View FMC in Clarenceville, QC.  It was wonderful to see pastors and lay people from other FM churches come to fill the church for the celebration.  And what a feast followed at the community centre!

There are pictures in the Photo Gallery this week from these events.

Thank you for your prayers and your partnership in the Gospel.

Bishop Keith
