Dear Colleagues,Thank you for your prayers for the Board of Administration (BOA) as it met this past weekend. Our movement is truly blessed with dedicated leaders who are willing to invest time and energy to serve the Lord and the FMCiC in the responsibilities that they carry in their positions on the Board.
The big task of the Board was to receive a progress report on the “What” piece of the Systems Analysis work. In the developmental evaluation process that we are following, there are three major movements:
What? – Determining what questions need to be asked about what is actually happening in our movement (getting the right probing questions takes a lot of work) and then doing research to get answers to those questions and discerning what themes are emerging.
So What? – Brainstorming on the many possible implications of those themes. (A large portion of time was given to the subcommittees of the Board to come up with these from the perspective of their committee.)
Now What? – The summer meeting of the Systems Analysis Task Team will take the list of implications along with further input that is coming in from other research (including feedback that is being collected in the Regional Gatherings) and work on discerning what needs to be done in light of what is being heard.
The BOA also approved a sabbatical policy for the NLT, received reports of the ongoing work of the subcommittees including the report of the auditors and Audit Committee that reported that all is in order in that area of the church. Copies of the audited statement are available.
Yesterday, I worshipped at Cross-Walk Community Church in Burlington, ON pastored by Mark and Jennifer Earle. Recently they relocated to the Rotary Youth Centre in Central Park in Burlington. Another congregation has merged with them and together, they are re-launching to reach that part of Burlington. It was good to be with them and to hear Mark and Jennifer’s excitement about the future.
Last evening was the Wesley Hymn Sing at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church in Toronto, held in conjunction with the Wesley Ministry Conference today at Tyndale Seminary. It was a privilege to participate in the service by introducing the background to Charles Wesley’s hymn “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing.” In addition to wonderful congregational singing, we enjoyed the music of the Salvation Army brass band and an address by Dr. Timothy Tennent entitled “The Risen Lord and the Worldwide Mission of the Church.”
There are pics of all these events in the Photo Gallery this week.
There is one announcement this week. .Arlington Woods Free Methodist Church in Ottawa has gone into transition. Please remember the Saskatchewan Regional Gathering next weekend at Arlington Beach Camp and Chad Vankoughnett’s ordination next Sunday in your prayers.
