Bishop’s Note – May 4, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

Once again the Lord answered our prayers for the Regional Gatherings.  He gave us wonderful traveling weather (though it was harder to stay inside on such a nice day) and there was a great spirit of conversation and community among those who gathered on Saturday at Smiths Falls FMC.  In the Q&A time, we had an important discussion about the recruitment of our future pastors.  I loved where we finally landed when we came to the conclusion that raising up leaders for the present and for the future is a responsibility that WE all bear together as local church and denominational leaders.

On Sunday Donna and I visited Athens FMC, ON where Fred and Susan McCracken are giving pastoral leadership.  Fred is a Ministerial Candidate who was called into ministry (from his position as a dispatcher with the Ontario Provincial Police) and given formation in the Smiths Falls FMC, ON.  It was very evident that God is using him in an effective way and that he and Susan are answers to our prayers for raising up godly, competent leadership for our churches.

The McCracken story is being reproduced in other places across Canada.  You’ll see in the appointments this week that two other Ministerial Candidates are being placed as pastors.  The Kamloops, Sault Ste Marie and Moose Jaw congregations all played a part in preparing Caylen Robertson who is now the pastor of the Eyebrow, SK congregation.

The Valleyview congregation near Sudbury, ON saw great potential in Jason Tripp, who, as a Tyndale Seminary student, needed to do an internship in a church.  This internship, which began as an effort to provide a Sudbury seminary student (from another denomination) with a way of fulfilling this graduation requirement, ended with Jason and Sylvie falling in love with the Valleyview congregation and the FMCiC.  He graduates from Tyndale next Saturday along with two other Ministerial Candidates (David and Kathy Stephenson) who have been pastoring the Ridgeway FMC, ON congregation.

We need to keep praying that God will raise up godly, competent pastors – especially as we continue to grow as a movement and see new congregations being birthed.  At the same time let’s also be encouraged by these stories and pay attention to those within our congregations that God might be calling to pastoral ministry.

There are pics in the Photo Gallery this week from the Regional Gathering, Sunday morning at Athens FMC and from the MEGaP interviews that happened this weekend.

The Prayer Guide for May 7-8 was sent out last week.  It’s attached as a reminder of this important time.

Have a great week serving Jesus.

Bishop Keith
